Infamous rapper, business mogul and failed-presidential candidate Kanye West and the reality television, model and social media extraordinaire Kim Kardashian have filed for divorce after 7 years of marriage. The celebrity couple known around the world caused shockwaves among fans earlier this year when they announced they would be separating.
The separation has been said to be amicable but it still comes as a surprise to many fans and interested onlookers. The couple have had personal ups and downs over the years – most noticeably Kanye’s struggle with mental health – yet their relationship together had always seemed strong despite being so centred in the public eye.
The couple have four children together, two girls and one boy. Whilst their earlier children were born in the traditional manner, the couple opted for the use of a surrogate mother for their later pregnancies. As a result they have North, 7 years old, Saint, 5 years old, Chicago, 3 years old and Psalm, almost 2 years old.
Kim, 40 years old, and Kanye, 43 years old first dated in 2012 after many years of friendship. Kanye had even made several token appearances on Kim’s reality TV show that built her megastardom: Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The public instantly took to the internet famous couple’s relationship – whether it was to congratulate or condone the pair – and they were immortally dubbed as ‘Kimye’.
Laura Wasser is a Hollywood lawyer, well-known in circles for her representation in high profile divorce cases. In the news, first released by notorious Hollywood media channel TMZ, she called the divorce ‘imminent’, despite official beginnings of proceedings being slow. The couple have reportedly been living separately already for a couple of months.
It is thought the children will stay with their mother in the couple’s Hollywood Hills hidden megamansion as Kanye takes some time and space on his Wyoming ranch.
