After their debut on the US reality TVshow X-Factor in 2012, Fifth Harmony – often abbreviated as 5H to their fans – have released experienced a revival of their 2016 single ‘Work From Home’. The song, which was made in collaboration with US rapper Ty Dolla $ign, comes from their second studio album ‘7/27’. Despite being released on the 26th February 2016, the song has made a comeback in 2021 with thanks to the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 global pandemic lockdown and social distancing restrictions having seen an increase in the number of people working from home.
The girl group is currently based in Miami and only features four of the original five members on which its name is based. The group is composed of Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui. Camila Cabello left the group in December 2016 to pursue a solo career. Social media post – X-Factor debut played a large part in the group’s success and saw all three of their studio albums so far chart in the top 10 of the US Billboard 200. The group is sign to X-Factor boss Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records, in a join contract with L.A. Reid’s label Epic Records. They appeared on the X-Factor’s second season of the show in the United States.
Lyrics of the song have resonated across the world in recent times as more and more people have been forced to adapt to a new, increasingly limited lifestyle. As the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage all around the globe, the song’s melodic and catchy description of a work from lifestyle have struck a chord with many in the same situation. In Australia alone, an increase to 32% of the population have reported adapting to work from home between 2020 and 2021 as a result of the pandemic.
