Hear Me Now | Second Day Uptown

Way back in July of last year, we interviewed them!
Good morning! The wicked crew from World’s End Press recently alerted us to the fact that they’ve dropped a new single and we’ve been pretty keen to hear some new beats from these guys in 2012. They’re a live music favourite here at Comeback Kid (a bunch of dudes dancing? yeah!) and they’ve continued to build their reputation as very funky party masters since the success of their debut singles Faithful and Only The Brave. Second Day Uptown is first and formost fun (this is an important ingredient for pop we reckon) but I’ve just played it 3 times in a row so it’s obviously more than that. It’s infectious, has a wicked build and a really smooth 80s feel to it without sounding deliberate. I also like how it ends. And I’m serious, I think that’s an important element to a song!
Anyway, stop reading my jive and have a listen for yourself OVER HERE.

Just In | Limedrop Weekender Shirt Trickery

Limedrop Weekend Red Plaid Shirt $179 Made in Australia
On Monday we published two Limedrop plaid shirts onto the online store and we’d quickly like to note a few things about them in this here post. First and foremost Limedrop have slightly altered the cut of their weekender shirt so it’s a more classic length and fit. Nice! Secondly, they’ve hand picked such sound and simple plaid fabric you can’t really go wrong. Right? And thirdly (yes, we’ve left the best till last) they’ve done some fabric trickery so that the outside of the garment feels like standard cotton but the inside has a soft fleece lining. SOFT FLEECE LINING. It’s subtle (so as to not create bulk) but basically means you’re wearing A SHIRT JUMPER.
Yes Shirt Jumper!

Hear Me Now | In With The New

A$AP Rocky. Hard core.
I’m a big fan of a bold statement and the other morning I confidently declared: 2012 looks to be my favourite year ever for new music. Big Call I Know. So on that note and in the spirit of discovery, dance, voice and sound, look into my eyes, See My Passion and join me in what could be: The Greatest Year of Music Ever.
Big intro ZOMG let’s do this you guys…
JJ | Beautiful Life
So we were pretty obsessed with the truly rad JJ’s mix tape (?) cover CD (?) mash up (?) album Kills for most of 2k11 and I’m not usually into this kind of airy-fairy pop stuff but hey, they’ve won me over. Beautiful Life is true to the JJ sound and with this little tease we’re ready to hear more of their fantasy glitter magic beats this year.
Lana Del Rey | Blue Jeans Toy Selectah Refix
Alright as I’ve already made some super grandiose statements in this post I will continue and declare that LDR must definitely be one of the most heavily remixed acts in recent memory. My musical prowess doesn’t go far beyond playing two recorders at once out of each nostril (true fact) but if I were to ever release a song I’d be super chuffed to hear the umpteen reworkings of it. So I hope Lana is downloading these wicked beats. This one is fun, upbeat and more ‘party’. Like.
Mellowhigh | Go
Sounds like Q-Tip which is rad because I miss him. The Odd Future crew and their associates, for all their attention grabbing antics, make some good music (we fresh we fresh).
Major Lazer | Get Free featuring Amber Coffman
Oh man I nearly fell over when this track was released in full. Earlier last month I’d ripped the very short promo track off YouTube for the purpose of this mix tape so I’m pretty stoked to have the full version in my hands. It’s spacey and if it were summer it would be our soundtrack but it’s not so I’m pretending it is and falling pretty hard for a softer Lazer sound.
A$AP Rocky | Goldie
What tickles our fancy about this track is that it’s been produced by Mr New Thing In Music, Hit-Boy and as his stage name suggests, he’s making them. N****as In Paris, Theraflu and now this track; we’re very pumped to hear what else he’s got in the works.
Theophilus London and A$AP Rocky | Big Spender
Not gonna lie to you but I find the Big Spender sample a bit tiring but hey(!) here I am, mildly obsessed with this very funky reworking of it. Well played guys! A$AP’s third verse is mad wicked. Note: play this as loud as you can, much better that way.
Yours,
Comeback Kid
Mood Board | Camo Chameleon

We found all these images on Tumblr.
It’s all about camouflage guys! During the past few months we’ve noticed bit-by-bit real-deal camo and camo inspired prints hitting the streets, festivals and the dashboards of our Tumblrs! The key is to not overdo it here. A cap, jacket or sock is probably all you need. A handy U.S. Army dog wouldn’t go astray either. At the moment we only have one camo piece in store but there’s plenty more to come!

Comeback Kid Presents | An Interview with Sam and Henry from Handsom
Sam and Henry, the ever-friendly design duo behind Handsom recently took some time out to answer a few questions we whipped up about their latest collection. We talk clothes and music and then some(!) but most surprisingly our questions don’t get too stupid. Regular readers will be proud! Take it in:
It’s over now (sad face) but how was your summer? What did you guys get up to?
This year we traded most of our summer… for winter! We spent 6 weeks overseas in the UK, France and Spain, so we got to spend Christmas and New Year with our family and old friends which was amazing. We didn’t even mind the cold weather actually. Our AW12 samples had just arrived and so we got to rock out all our new threads: we were like walking catalogues for the range!
Your current AW12 collection has just arrived online at Comeback Kid. What was the inspiration behind this collection? We also noticed that there’s heaps of orange, navy and charcoal which we love. Does this colour palette tie back to your inspiration?
The collection definitely has a ’90s after-school vibe to it, with inspiration being drawn from our own teenage years, as well as the legendary Grange Hill (UK TV show). We aimed to keep the range as wearable as possible, with flashes of the bright orange to brighten up a winter wardrobe.
The (very popular) Aztec Pocket tee has had a winter version update in the form of a Fair Isle pocket (which we love and Pat also owns) what gave you the idea to create such a simple but effective design?
We were looking at ways to give tee-shirts a bit of a point of difference. We started out looking at contrast pockets, in block colours and prints. Then we sampled a knitted swatch off a Fair Isle motif (intended for a jumper) and thought the swatch could make an amazing pocket.
What are some pieces of the collection that you will personally be wearing this season? And how often do you design for yourselves vs. for a specific customer you have in mind?
We always design for ourselves! And we each own pretty much every single piece in the range. We are seriously running out of wardrobe space…!
Tell us about an average day in the Handsom studio!
There is no average day! Today was spent staring at spreadsheets, yesterday was spent editing images, the day before was spent shooting a look book. The best thing about our job is the variety: boredom is not an option!
Winter can be brutal. What are your top three survival tips? You’re from Britain, this should be easy!
1) Porridge for breaky;
2) Always have a brolly handy; and
3) Layer, layer, layer!
Music is a big part of any Comeback Kid day. What are you guys listening to at the moment?
It’s a bit of a Brit Pop revival in the Handsom studio at the moment – the Best of Blur is sounding better than ever!
If this collection where to come with a soundtrack who would write and perform it?
Sticking with the 90s theme, we’d probably say the Charlatans. Another old fave frequenting the Handsom jukebox right now.
Handsom’s winter threads are now available online with Comeback Kid!
Yours,
Comeback Kid
