CBK Portland Beanie $40, CBK Vintage Plaid $40 and CBK Classic Chinos $85
Pretty much convinced that this is the ultimate day-to-day outfit. Like some sort of super adult uniform. Despite the predictions that one day we’d be wearing wicked futuristic silvers, jump-suits and space hats (where are you flying cars?!) we’re pretty happy that a warm plaid, comfy pair o’ chinos and a green beanie suffice for modern attire. Day in, day out.

Hear Me Now | As Good As New

I took this photo with my phone last night and Photoshopped it to within an inch of its life #LensFlare
Come now, let’s talk about new music, new bands and the benefits of lens flare.
Kanye West and Jay Z Otis
Otis Redding Try a Little Tenderness
I guess I thought this day would never happen. What with the ongoing saga of Child Rebel Soldier (come on you guys get it together!) I’ll confess I didn’t have my hopes up for Watch The Throne so when track two dropped this week I was pretty much the most excited person on the planet. Don’t disrespect this song dear readers; you need good speakers, a readiness to dance and an eternal love for Mr. West and Mr. Z and their collective glory. Sampling the ultimate torch/funk song, Try a Little Tenderness, this track is an onslaught of awesomeness. I love how (like the original they sample) it has no chorus. I love how they’re collaborating with Riccardo Tisci (creative director of Givenchy) for the visuals; this is a masterstroke. I’m just in love in general.
Client Liaison
Speaking of love, I fell a little bit head-over-heels for the lead singer (pictured above) of new Melbourne band Client Liaison last night. Supporting World’s End Press (a brilliant set FYI) their sound really struck a cord with my ears. Part Prince, part Michael Jackson, part 1980s perfection this duo produced a live set that won us over in a flash. Monte Morgan pulled shapes like you wouldn’t believe. He waved his charm wand (well, you know) and dazzled us all. Anyway, it’s near impossible to find their music on the internet but they provided the sounds for this video (and they feature in the footage too) so enjoy!
New Navy Zimbabwe
New Navy are indeed new to town; hailing from Sydney this is one freakin’ catchy tune debut. The tribal drum situation towards the end is mentally good fun. Hopefully we’ll see them hit up the festival scene over the warmer months because this makes the perfect summer sound.
Gotye featuring Kimbra Somebody That I Used to Know
Everyone is addicted to this song. Fact. And we’ve gotten on the bandwagon too. It sounds typically Gotye-esque but Kimbra’s voice lends itself perfectly to his sound and is a refreshing surprise as you get deeper into the song. Enjoy!
Active Child Hanging On
Wow this song is peaceful, like, this is putting babies to sleep kind of music. But despite the spacey sound it’s not boring. Nor is it background music per se. If you like your music chilled then this is for you.
Club Feet Edge of Extreme
OK this isn’t new new but it’s new to me so deal with it. Sounding like a touch of Hot Chip and a dash of LCD Soundsystem this is one nice track. Chilled out but not freezing, dance friendly but not wild I know this will be on high-rotation in store.
Happy Saturday!

Comeback Kid Presents | An Interview with World’s End Press

It’s no secret that we’ve been fans of World’s End Press and their upbeat super-future disco, touch of pop, non-stop dance sounds since day one. If indeed we did find ourselves at the end of the world we could only hope that we’d stumble upon them writing their awesome music, jamming, dancing and generally inducing fun and smiles to all those watching on. For the last few weeks we’ve been camping out the front of their individual abodes writing questions onto scrap paper, folding them into intricate paper planes and throwing them through their bedroom windows. Tom from the band kindly came out of his house last week and said he’d be happy to conduct an interview with us in a more traditional way. So here’s our first ever interview with Tom and the band from World’s End Press. Enjoy!
What has World’s End Press been up to in the past couple of months?
It has been a busy few months for us. We recently just finished up a national tour with Little Red. That started pretty much as soon as we finished up a national tour with Cut Copy. We have been playing a few of our own shows in between too. The Buffalo Club will be our first ‘legitimate venue’ show in Melbourne for a long time.
World’s End Press? Band name story… go!
John’s grandma has a printing press named World’s End Press in England. When over there Rhys and John stayed with her. They liked the name so much they asked if they could keep the name going. She kindly obliged.
You guys were busy playing a string of festival gigs over the summer and have Splendour in The Grass coming up later this month. Do you prefer music festivals or the more intimate warehouse/venue gigs? Also, do you get to meet the other acts? Or are some big name bands untouchable?
There is definitely a place for both festival shows and smaller venue shows. This past summer we were lucky enough to be able to get used to playing on the big festival stages. Golden Plains being my personal highlight. It has definitely taken a while to get comfortable with the sound and space on a big stage.
Playing festivals is exciting but I do think there is an energy playing in smaller rooms that can’t happen at a festival. As a band we do feed off each others energy and that of the audience. Smaller warehouse/club shows are all about having a good time together. That is really important to us. There is less divide between the performer and the audience. It is more inclusive than a festival.
When playing festivals you do meet other bands. It is inevitable especially on a touring festival like Laneway. There is more time to get to know other bands when supporting their own shows. We had a good time with !!! (Chk Chk Chk) they definitely out partied us most nights of Laneway.
You’re all from Melbourne-Town. What do you guys like to do when you’re not making bodies dance on the d-floor. Favourite Melbourne hangout?
We like to spend time rehearsing. We do hang out together a lot. I think you can often find us in a huddle somewhere. It usually depends on what shows are going on. The Workers Club has great shows. The Buffalo Club is also putting on some really good stuff. Bamboo Musik is a night we generally all attend.
Do you have any favourite new local bands you’ve been listening too? We’re always on the hunt for local new music!
Butcher Blades/ are always a good time. I love those guys. I recently saw Speed Painters for the first time and was really into it.
You’re stylin’ guys. What are some of your favourite labels?
It seems there has been a fair bit of online purchasing going on at the moment for WEP. But when not in front of a computer screen Lenko Boutique has nice stuff. Definitely does not take itself too seriously. Limedrop clothing is always pretty to look at.
Although not really a label Grandma’s Finest sells some pretty styling vintage wear for women online. I know that may not pertain to me so much but perhaps it shall come in handy in the future.

Is it true that you have a Mighty Ducks-esque chant before you do before going on stage? Please tell us more about this.
Ha, this is fairly true. We do have a pre-show ritual that is in some ways our version of the ‘quack’ from The Mighty Ducks. It is more a hands in ‘go team’ kind of thing. It is something we have done before every show we have played. There is definitely some superstition associated with this. I can go no further.
You’ve covered Pet Shop Boys in the past. Have any new covers been added to your set-list? We’re happy to put in suggestions, we have an unhealthy obsession with covers.
We have been working on a lot of new material and have been concentrating on playing that live. This has taken priority over getting any covers up for now. There is always the possibility of a cover coming back into the fold. We would love to hear the suggestions from the Comeback Kid camp.
Ok. So you’re stranded on a desert island. An evil island warlord has granted you the opportunity to have 5 albums sent to you whilst you’re trapped there. Which ones do you request? And why?
Tom: I choose Black Noise by Pantha Du Prince. I am listening to that record quite a lot again. It feels like a deep dark forest which I think would make for a good tiger hunting soundtrack when stuck on an island.
Sashi: Sign o’ the Times by Prince as it runs the gamut of emotions.
John: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space by Spiritualized. Tom: This is a favorite record of his.
Rhys: Beaucoup Fish by Underworld.
The 5th record we decided would be needed on a desert island would be El Baile Alemán by Senor Coconut. Latin Kraftwerk covers. A perfect album to play whilst ignoring all this evil island warlord business, laying back and sipping on a coconut.
World’s End Press are playing this Friday night at Buffalo Club (um, awesome venue… something Twin Peaks about it no?) where they’ll pretty much put on one of the most fun live music shows you can watch. Dancing shoes are a must.
WEP FTW!
