About Last Night | Brothers Hand Mirror

Last night we hit up The Workers Club to catch Brothers Hand Mirror do their thing live. And they did it. Sounding like a fusion of (’cause let’s face it, my music writing abilities only go as far as making comparisons) the love child between Das Racist and early Beastie Boys, Brothers Hand Mirror have such an epic dose of charm and charisma that we were swooned from the get-go. I know my rhymes people and Grant, the rapper, can rhyme. They describe themselves as “hand torn confetti on fresh sweat” and I’d say that’s apt. To decipher; they’re eclectic, energetic, entertaining but above all, talented. Martin didn’t drop a word nor Oscar a beat. And:
They’re playing in store for the Upper Left Arm launch!
Boo yah! Segue!

Hear Me Now | 90s Music And Stuff ‘Cause It’s Friday People!

This is like some caucasian human mountain of glory.
A few of our Twitter peeps have requested we whip up a 90s playlist to get this weekend started. And what Twitter wants, Comeback Kid does. We’re so easy y’all. Like Further Maths in year 12. And I did it, I would know. Some clues?
This 90s playlist spectacular features a song called Creep that isn’t by Radiohead. Three songs have abbreviations in their titles: Lovin’, Nuthin’ and Ol’. There’s a classic by Savage Garden (never forget) and it closes with a Comeback Kid one-hit-wonder favourite.
Warning! This playlist is so daggy and tacky and awesome your face will start hurting. LISTEN HERE.
Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s…

Local Love | Feskyval Festival

You guys, this Saturday is Feskyval. You read me, Feskyval. Not only is it an awesomely relaxed festival (where all proceeds go to Kids Under Cover) but it’s a festival that supports puns. For the word Feskyval has a hidden meaning. Which is…? Esky.
Located at Ceres (apparently hippie is the new hipster FYI) Feskyval encourages it’s attendees to bring an esky full of… well, as a teenager might say: WHATEVS. So milk, tea, beer, ox blood, ocean water… are all welcome. Like other non-pun friendly festivals bands will be playing all day and Ceres is a lovely place to chill out, particularly when the weather is a sweet 29 degrees. Go Melbourne!
Tickets are $35 and that’s a good price for a great cause. So get on it pun-ters!

Hear Me Now | Microscope on Zonoscope

The cover art features a photomontage by the late Japanese artist Tsunehisa Kimura. Many levels of epic.
So Cut Copy just released their brilliantly hilarious video clip for Zonoscope’s opening track, Need You Now and it just dawned on me: we haven’t told you guys how much we love this album. It’s only been released for 10 days but our obsession with Cut Copy album number three is healthy to say the least. Like it’s predecessor, In Ghost Colours, it’s fair to say that it took a few plays to really get hooked into the music but fear not my pretties, WE ARE HOOKED.
I’ve never released an album, let alone three, so I can’t imagine the task of staying true to the sound that got you your fans but also challenging and exciting them with your new release. This album does just that. If Cut Copy have a formula for their success, selling that will make them big bucks but that’s not to say that Zonoscope sounds formulaic, not at all, it seems to be telling the same story that In Ghost Colours started but with a new voice. Long sentence. So shall we break it up into tiny chunks called “singles” and work you through our favourites?
Track 1: Need You Now
What a way to start an album! It’s like a giant door opening, through which you can see a glaring light that ultimately passes to reveal a field of wonder. Yeah, just like that. Step with me into that field…
Track 2: Take Me Over
The first release from Zonoscope is a delicious single of joy. It’s got REMIX ME written all over it, maybe even MASH ME UP… but I’m also happy with it as is. Pop perfection.
Track 3: Where I’m Going
This has a sound that you know would feel right at home live. It’s big and bold and the “yeah yeah yeah wooh” is always good for a sing-a-long. My vote is this will become one of the big singles.
Track 4: Pharaohs & Pyramids
No doubt a nod to the final track Sun God the spoken word heard in the introduction has something Primal Scream-ish about it. And in a sense so does the track because it’s a dance floor delight. Louder.
Track 11: Sun God
Following on from the pumping Corner of the Sky comes (rather aptly) Sun God. At 15:05 in length this isn’t so much a song as it is a journey. What a treat for the end of an album; it twists and turns and surprises. Enjoy.

Comeback Kid
Hear Me Now | Contact High

Party-starting favourites, Architecture In Helsinki are back with a brand new single ‘Contact High’ from their soon-to-be-released album Moment Bends. A quick Wikipedia search of ‘Contact High’ describes the term as “a psychogenic ‘trip’ without taking drugs by being close to somebody while he is on drugs.” Wow.
Listen to it HERE. We love it!
Give me a tropical contact high,
