Alexander McQueen, Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada, Missoni and Burberry Prorsum.
Spring 2011 shows have commenced! And pictured above are a few of our initial favourites from a handful of shows that have walked thus far. Some thoughts:
Subtle and very wearable: this is Sarah Burton’s first collection since she took the reigns as Creative Director at Alexander McQueen. Though it lacked the extreme styling we’ve come to associate with this label it did offer a confident, ready-to-wear feel; nothing was too obscure… or too normal for that matter! Attention to detail was key.
OMG does anyone own a yacht?! What? No! Oh my: then where am I going to wear Salvatore Ferragamo’s latest collection? Easy and summery and unashamedly European this would look mildly ridiculous on the streets of Melbourne and simply wonderful on a boat in the Mediterranean. Wine and cheese anyone?
A nod to the classics was key at Prada this year but this wasn’t to say that colour was ignored. We’re tempted to steal this stripe delight jumper for our current winter wardrobes, it’s sure to brighten Melbourne’s foggy mornings.
Speaking of colour, Missoni delivered it in bucket loads at their showing, with layer upon layer of pattern play and bright surprises. Cheerful socks and shoes ensure you wont get missed when this collection hits the shelves.
Burberry Prorsum pulled it back a bit this season and slim lined the bulky coats we fell in love with over Fall. Despite the slight change in direction we’re particularly fond of this mid thigh leather biker jacket. Yes please.
Ciao!
