Local Love | Old Stuff New You
A wee birdy flew through the store window this morning (must shut them stat) to notify us that our friends over at Limedrop are holding a little sale this weekend but as you’d expect it comes with a twist. Of lime? No! They wont be serving alcohol (no one is perfect guys) but they will be serving some old (and new) season styles at seriously discounted prices.
Now now, I can hear you all thinking, “Stop trying to sugar coat this Comeback Kid, who wants to wear last season’s goodies?” well reader, who doesn’t? I do! I loved last summer (I rolled under a garage door as it was closing) and I loved last winter too (met a guy with Thug Life tattooed onto his torso Tupac style) and the summer before also (thought a cop was a stripper when they arrived at my place due to noise complaints) and so why wouldn’t I want the clothes to go with those memories? Limedrop have managed to use their good looks to get Lenko, Trimapee, Thom Finch and Who Am Eye involved too, so plenty of stylish threads for all tastes will be up for grabs. It’s all in the details: at Gorker this Friday and Saturday from 10-6 and Sunday a very relaxed 12-5 accepting casheroo only.
BUT! If that still doesn’t interest you we’re offering free back massages, career counseling and life drawing at Comeback Kid ALL WEEKEND! FREE!*
Oldie but a Goodie,

Winter 2010 | Marching to the Same Beat

Matt wears: Beat Poet Hollow Bone “Seriously Twisted” Jeans in Matte Black $280 and Beat Poet “S Pleat” Tee in Black $95.
Even though the above outfit looks pretty straight forward Beat Poet have ensured that there’s some subtle attention to detail in each piece. We hark on about their twisted jeans all the time so you should know that there are some sweet nips and tucks occurring to create that effect. And the top half? Three quick pleats on the front of the left shoulder and three again on the back of the right add some extra volume and movement to what you might think is just a simple tee.
Deceptively Yours,
Comeback Kid
Winter 2010 | The Grandpa Hood

Matt wears: Stolen Girlfriends Club “Teen Spirit” Velvet Stove Pipes in Deep Purple $330 and The “Grandpa” Hood in Black Merino Wool $450.
As you can see this style is aptly called The Grandpa Hood though it might just be a tad cooler than something your parents parents would wear. It features a knitting technique known as Cable Knit and you can see this in more detail here. It’s so heavy you can’t hang it on a coat hanger and so warm you don’t need to wear pants with it. We joke! That’s inappropriate folks. Only one left in store too.
Cup Of Tea Anyone?

Hear Me Now | How To Start A Chillwave Band
Wave hello to the worst pun you’ve read all day and your new favourite genre of music in one: Chillwave.
In today’s educational post we’re going to a) try to describe this obscure genre of music b) teach you how to record your own Chillwave track c) suggest some Chillwave hits to rub over your ear drums and d) help you decide on your bands awesome chilled out name. Breath in now.
Chillwave a Definition
The sound of teen angst as discovered on the beach if the 1980s had’ve occurred for the first time twenty years from now. You following? Ensure you’re lonely but happy. Young but mature. And slightly quirky. You’re Chillwave.
How to Record a Chillwave Track
Think positive thoughts, go to the beach, record a quirky, gently off beat song and ensure you use plenty of looping and synth effects. Edit. OK, now play the full song underwater and record at the same time. Discard first beach side recording and keep second underwater version. Upload onto your computer. Add a moody melody and ensure you use an echo effect at times. Now loop something random. Yep. And filter again. You’re done!
Some Chillwave Hits to Inspire Your Brain
There aren’t heaps and heaps of Chillwave bands because this is a term that’s been made up to help differentiate a handful of groups from being “Indie”. Because there’s about 5 million “Indie” bands and only about 10 “Chillwave” bands it sets them in a class of their own. Lucky ducks! So before we join them, let’s sample their sweet synth sounds. We suggest:
Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti Round and Round
The Drums Skippin’ Town
Toro Y Moi You Hid
Washed Out Feel It All Around
Neon Indian Deadbeat Summer
Boat Club All The Time
A Rose By Any Other Name
It’s crucial that you pick just the right name for your band to ensure maximum success. We’ve created a formula to help you get the best results. Combine a word that describes “water” with a word reflecting your “angst”. Thesaurus time and a little head start:
Fresh Sorrow
Cold Confusion
Wet Dread
Falling Madness
Splashing Despair
And you’re done! Just like that! Phew. See you over the summer festival season my chilled out friend. Remember to wear sunscreen.

Walk the Walk | Bonjour Paris!

Spring 2011: Louis Vuitton, Yohji Yamamoto, Dries Van Noten, Viktor & Rolf and Alexis Mabille.
Take a good look at the above clothes. Each model is rocking a completely different style; whether that be cut, fit, mood or item yet they all appear to be marching for one awesome beige army. Even though we’re looking at five completely different collections each is complementing the other somewhat effortlessly.
We love the twisted scarf at Louis Vuitton worn as a belt – simple and effective and easily emulated with ones current wardrobe. Yohji Yamamoto have taken seemingly undesirable ideas (floral upholstery, cropped baggy pants, high necklines) and created one seriously cool look. Dries Van Noten, masters of relaxed styling have shown us runway looks that would work just fine at the pub. Viktor & Rolf always get the crazies on for their woman’s collections (Fall 2010 anyone?) but this muted and classic collection for their menswear label show their true skills at subtlety. And lastly, Alexis Mabille used some über feminine styling for his show, namely showering the models in tiny crochet daisies and yet despite these romantic notions his marching hippies were hailing in a new form of masculinity.
So to summarise, beige is back and that’s a good thing.
Au Revoir!
