Winter 2010 | All Rugged Up

Matt wears: Stolen Girlfriends Club “Teen Spirit” Velvet Stove Pipes in Deep Purple $330, Beat Poet “S Pleat” Tee in Black $95 and Stolen Girlfriends Club “Grandpa” Hood in Oatmeal $450.
David Bowie has a song called “Five Years” and one lyric is as follows: It was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor. Well, had Mr. Bowie had this cardigan then I’m pretty sure the “cold” factor would’ve been redundant. Plus these jeans are pretty crazy cool and more suited to a rock star rather than an “actor”. Thus changing the lyric too: It is cold but I’m warm and I look like a rock star.
That is all my miscellaneous advice for the day. Actually(!) the cardigan is part Merino wool and part Mohair ie. it’s warm.
Hot Chocolate Please,

Hear Me Now | The Plane that Flew
In the spirit of our last Hear Me Now we’ve decided to document the journey of a CBK favourite: M.I.A.’s Paper Planes. This track has been remixed more than your wardrobe, (w)rapped over more than a present (that was bad) and mashed up like steamy potatoes. DJs just like using it OK?! Word on the street (from JJJ’s producer series) is that M.I.A. recorded the vocals on someone’s veranda and it sounded so cool and so gritty that even when they put it down in the studio they couldn’t top the original – so they kept it. It comes from the mind of Diplo who recorded and mixed the track with his producer buddy Switch and they took the awesome opening sample from The Clash Straight To Hell.
So who else has done some origami with said Paper Plane? Let’s all get our red shoes and dance the blues away now:
In case you live in a cave under the ocean with Princess Ariel then take a listen to the jamming original. Love this song more than you. The first remix that really took this song for a good ride was done by DFA and featured on the Slumdog Millionaire (still haven’t finished that film) soundtrack. It’s hypnotic and enchanting and just like Ariel really: all floaty and good.
Considering he was the original Master of Ceremony Mr. Diplo also gave the track a good reworking and in his words pretty much featured EVERYONE. But it’s the Annie Lennox factor that makes us all warm inside.
Afrikan Boy and Rye Rye who were pretty pumping at the time (miss you Rye Rye) added their vocals to the plane flying goodness and gave it the perfect dash of Hip Hop.
To add icing onto this rather large cake DJ Ralphey Ralph one up’d them on the Hip Hop front and mashed up Paper Planes with A Milli by Lil Wayne. The original A Milli is one of our favourite tracks; it’s dirty, nasty, crunk-tastic gangsta rap at it’s best so it sits quite nicely amongst M.I.A.’s grimy beats.
Hmmm. And upon writing this post we’ve out Paper Planed even ourselves by revisiting all the remix madness. We prescribe one track at a time with a good dose of dance floor and plenty of paper.
Yours,
Comeback Kid
